Shanghai, located at
the mouth of China's Yangtze River, is a dynamic, pulsating
metropolis with around 16 million inhabitants. This world-famous
city, the largest in China, is a flourishing international
metropolis, the most influential economic, financial, cultural,
scientific and technological centre in East China. But despite
these modern, sophisticated facets, Shanghai’s multicultural
flair lends it a unique charm. Here, cultures intertwine in a
perfect blend of contemporary and traditional, western and
oriental. Modern skyscrapers vie for space with old-style
Shikumen townhouses. As well as comfortable, modern hotels,
visitors to Shanghai will find many theatres and interesting
museums, including the Shanghai Art Museum and Natural History
Museum. Shanghai is also renowned for chic shopping and consumer
goods are extremely easy on the pocket by western standards.
Gourmets will be in their element, with a choice of over 1000
restaurants serving the famous 16 styles of Chinese cuisine and
a wealth of other international dishes. Getting around the city
is easy with the relatively inexpensive taxi service and an
extensive bus and metro system. Shanghai is well worth a visit!
